Blue Summit Water Conference in Ottawa

Ten years ago, those who wanted to preserve Canada’s water gathered together and formed an organization called Water Watch. The Council of Canadians and the Canadian Union of Public Employees held a summit on water to celebrate the 10th anniversary of that decision, gathering together activists committed to environmental issues, keeping water in the hands of government rather than private companies, and protecting the rights of workers in water and wastewater industries. Panelists included Coordinator of the Africa Water Network Al-hassan Adam, Council of Canadians Chairperson Maude Barlow, and lawyer Steven Shrybman, who focuses his work on public interest and international trade. At the conference he spoke about why he believes Canada’s water will stay in the hands of Canadians, not private companies. Listen to him below.
